Laurel Lake McGuire, TWSA

I work in a style of illuminated realism; that is, the image you retain in your memory or informed by emotion. I enjoy using layering techniques and enough detail to give my work a solid feel. Color and the play of light are important to my vision.

Glory Days

On a visit to my old hometown I dragged my plein air gear down to the ocean’s edge. I wanted to capture the last vestiges of a sweater pool that had been cut into the rocks back when Magnolia was where people summered in large hotels and mansions to escape Boston’s heat. It was still fairly visible decades ago but the sea is slowly erasing it. In the distance one can see Boston on a clear day.
